Singapore | The Lion City Daytrip

It took an hour and we departed at Changing Airport in Singapore. This is so far one of best airport I've been. From there we took MRT to our hostel 98SG near Aljunied station.

We started exploring the Lion City. We just hop MRT to some of the interesting spot in Singapore. We wander at the Merloin Park. We also enjoy the Marina Gardens.

We ended our Singapore trip in Sentosa Island. I'm able to meet my college classmate Sheila and she accompanied us around the entertainment complex. We pass by the Universal Studio and have that photo op at the famous rotating global signage.  Then we headed to the man made beaches in Sentosa. Sheila also treated us lunch at Chinese restaurant.

It was a short trip to SG then we go back to KL via Air Asia and from there we took our flight back to Manila.

Malaysia | A Truly Asia Experience

This trip is made possible by a glitch booking with Air Asia that I was able to book flights KL-Manila and KL-SG-KL for less than 100 pesos only.

Together with my constant travel buddy Weng, we kick off our Malaysia-Singapore trip exploring the city of Kuala Lumpur.

From the KLIA-LCCT we took a bus to KL Sentral and headed to our hostel Central Lodge. We left our backpack then start our journey.

The famous Petronas twin tower in heart of the city is one of the reasons why I wanted to visit Malaysia. We enjoyed wandering around that complex. There is a lot of tourist.

We ended the day at the Brickfields commonly known as little India enjoying milk tea and roti.

On the second day we hop a train to the Batu Cave. We climb the countless stairs up to the entrance of the cave. Monkeys were everywhere.

By lunch time we head back to KL then we visited the grand mosque and KL Sentral station. We spend that afternoon at Titingwansa Lake. This place is where John Lloyd and Bea shot their movie Miss You Like Crazy. One of best view of Petronas Tower can be seen from the park beside the lake. From there we bought some pasalubong at the China Town in Jalan Petaling.

We left KL early that morning to catch our flight to Singapore. It was a truly Asia experience.

Guimaras | An Enticing Island Daytrip

We manage to see some of the islands beautiful scenery even for a limited time. A mere short boat ride from Iloilo City the island of Guimaras has been a top tourist destination in Western Visayas.

We had the tricycle tour around the island. We had a quick stop-over at the world’s smallest plaza, Guimaras Provincial Capitol and mango research plantation. Along the highway you can see a lot of mango trees.

We buy some pasalubong at Trappist monastery and headed to Guisi beach and Light House. The powdery sand of the beach and there’s some rock formations is a postcard perfect scenery. We also bought a box of mango pizza at The Pitstop.

It was a short trip to island of Guimaras. There are more places to explore and I hope to comeback to this island soon.

This is part of my Western Visayas Trip.

Iloilo | Old Churches Of San Joaquin, Miag-ao & Molo

San Joaquin Church
After 2 hours we reached the town of San Joaquin in Iloilo. The century old church of San Joaquin is one of a kind. The façade of church has the militaristic motif. From San Joaquin we hop a bus to the nearby town of Miagao. The Santo Tomas de Villanueva church is one of the 4 baroque churches in the UNESCO’s Worlds Heritage list. Built between 1787-1797 and served as fortress against Muslim invaders. Its fabulous bas-relief sandstone façade depicts St. Christopher strolling through a tropical forest of coconut palms and papaya trees with baby Jesus.

After exploring Miagao church we boarded a bus bound to Iloilo City. It’s raining that afternoon that weren’t able to pass by the Molo church. We left our backpack at City Dorm and stroll around the city. Most of the old buildings in Iloilo were restored.

The streets were filled with locals and tourist enjoying the Dignayang festivities. We had seafood overload for our dinner.

Miag-ao Church
The following day after our short Guimaras trip we have heritage tour at Camina Balay Na Bato in Arevalo. We tried their pancit molo and chocolate de baterol. Afterwards we drop by the Molo Church. A tasty bibingka is a must try when visiting the church.

Molo Church was visited by Dr. Jose Rizal in 1886 because of its biblical paintings and it served as the evacuation center during World War II. The church was damaged during the liberation of the Philippines from Japan and was repaired by Rev. Manuel Alba with the help of the congregation. The church was declared a national landmark by the National Historical Institute in 1992 through the representation of Sir Knight Rex S. Salvilla. It is the only Gothic church outside Manila.

Molo Church
Before Racky flies back to Manila we jog at Esplanade, had coffee at Madge Café and a delicious bowl of batchoy in Lapaz market.

This is part of my Western Visayas Trip.

Antique | Island-hopping Malalison & Kawa Hotbath Experience

From the Bakhawan Eco Park we ride a tricycle to the transport terminal. We boarded a van and alight at the Culasi town plaza in Antique. We ate lunch at the nearby restaurant then we look a boat that will transport us to the Malalison Island.

We haggle and the boatman agreed that well charter the boat for 400 pesos round-trip. He also served us our guide. We trek the grassy hill of the island. It’s similar to the hills of Batanes and the grassy land of Mt. Pulag.

There is also a sandbar and the sands of the island were powdery white. This island is also a marine sanctuary.

From the island we go back to the mainland and took a tricycle to the next town Tibiao, we alighted at the junction leading to the village were kawa hot-bath is located. It’s late in the afternoon that we decided to check in at Kasa Raya Travellers Inn just beside the national highway. The inn staffs were so accommodating that they allow us to occupy their aircon room and we agreed that we’ll only use fan because were on tight budget. The inn is made of bamboo materials. There is also a free breakfast. The room with private toilet is spacious and clean.

The following day we walked towards Brgy. Importante. We pass by the rice terraces and Tibiao River. We trek up to the waterfalls and have ourselves a kawa hot-bath. Going back to the inn we ride a habal-habal. We packed our things and waited a bus bound to Iloilo.

This is part of my Western Visayas Trip.

Aklan | A Morning Walk At Bakhawan Ecopark

Together with my friend Racky we explore Western Visayas covering the provinces of Aklan, Antique, Iloilo and Guimaras Island. We landed Kalibo airport at around 10 pm with Air Asia. Since were arriving late at night our initial plan is to stay at the airport but we can’t find a place because the Air Asia-airport lounge is occupied by Korean tourist. We check the net for a budget accommodation nearby. We stayed at Airport Line Pension House.

We check-out at the pension house early in the morning and chartered a tricycle to the Bakhawan Eco Park in Brgy. New Buswang.  This eco park is managed by Kalibo Save The Mangroves Association, Inc. (KASAMA). Were too early that the eco-park is still closed. We had coffee and hard boiled camote for breakfast in a sari-sari store just across the park.

The community transformed mudflats into a mangrove forest. Their vision is shared by the municipality of Kalibo, USWAG Foundation, DENR and people’s organization KASAMA. This community based management was adopted a national strategy and received a various local and international awards. The United Nations FAO acclaimed this one of the exemplary forest managed in the whole of Asia and the Pacific.

Entrance fees were 100.00 for general admission, 60.00-Aklanons/senior citizen, 50.00-students. The 1 kilometers wooden walkway leads to the sea, passing through forest mangroves.

After spending that whole morning walking through the mangrove forest we bought some clams for our early lunch then we headed to the Kalibo transport terminal and were bound to our next destination Antique!

This is part of my Western Visayas Trip.

Hong Kong | A Glimpse Of Asia's World City

After exploring Macau we headed to Macau-HK Ferry terminal and boarded a ferry bound to Hong Kong. An hour of sea travel we arrived at Hong Kong past 7 in the evening. We took the MTR to our hostel in Fortress Hill area. We stayed at Yes Inn.

We left our backpack and look for a nearby restaurant. We have a sumptous authentic Chinese food for dinner. After that we boarded a double decker bus to nowhere then took a tram back to our hostel.

On the second day of our Macau-Hong Kong trip we headed to Lantau Island. We took MTR to Ngong Ping 360. For the first time were able to experience a cable car ride. We explore the village and climb the stairs up to the big Buddha. Try some authentic Chinese street foods.

We wander at the central business district on our 3rd day. We meet some OFW have chitchat and also eat lunch with them.

Afterwards we took a tram to The Peak. It's so foggy that were not able to witness the 360° view of Hong Kong's skyscrapers. We take a coffee break from a Starbucks branch there.

From the Peak we hop a bus to the Central Ferry Pier then we took a ferry to cross Kowloon Peninsula. We walked the kilometer long Avenue of Stars then we checked the Mongkok street market. After buying some staff we head back to the Avenue of Stars to witness the spectacular symphony of Lights.

It was an awesome day exploring Hong Kong on our own. We get our backpack from the hostel and waited for a bus to the airport but it seems that we missed the lastrip instead we took a much pricey MTR to the airport. We sleep there and waited our flight back to Manila via Cebu Pacific Hong Kong- Clark route.

Macau | Walking Through Historic Center Of Macau

Ruins of St. Pauls

Last June 2013 together with my good friend Weng we travel Macau and Hong Kong on a budget.

It's our first time to travel out of the country. We’re too early at Clark airport in Pampanga. We waited for the check in counter to open then we fall in line to process our travel documents.

The Immigration officers asked so many questions to me. She asks for our hotel booking reservations, airline tickets and reason why we are traveling to Macau. After presenting all documents the IO finally stamped my passport then we headed to the boarding area and waited for our flight.

The Venetian
From Macau airport we took the free shuttle from the airport to the Venetian Hotel. The elegant interior of the casino /hotel is amazing. We roam around the casino complex and the nearby hotel.

From the Venetian Hotel we took a taxi to the Senado square. There's a lot of OFW there. Were supposed to spend time at the park but we can't find a place were we can rest so asked for a nearby hostel. We stayed at Pensao Ka Va.

Past 10 in the morning when we woke up and started to explore the Senado Square, Ruins of St. Pauls and the historical center of Macau.

Senado Square
There is a  lot of free taste goods and souvenir shops along the streets leading to the Ruins of  St. Pauls. We ride a cab from one attraction to another. We visited the Guia Fortress, A-ma Temple and the Fisherman’ Wharf.

Laguna | Pagsanjan Falls Via Pueblo El Salvador In Cavinti

Pagsanjan Falls (Magdapio Falls) is one of the most famous waterfalls in the country and a major tourist attractions of Laguna. The three-drop waterfall is reached by a river trip on dugout canoe, known locally as "shooting the rapids", originating from Pagsanjan. The falls can also be reached from the top by a short hike from Cavinti. The boat ride has been an attraction since the Spanish Colonial Era with the oldest written account in 1894. The town of Pagsanjan lies at the confluence of two rivers, the Balanac River and the Bumbungan River (Pagsanjan River).

Inside the Devil's cave behind the waterfall

how to get there:

From Manila take a bus bound to Sta. Cruz Laguna. Hop a jeepney that ply to Lucban Quezon then alight at the junction to the town of Cavinti and took a short tricycle ride to Pueblo El Salvador in Brgy. Tibatib in Cavinti.
